During the month of December all our programs in Guatemala and Albania have a special Christmas celebration for all the children who attend throughout the year. There is a presentation of the Christmas story, a special meal together and a gift for every child, whether they have a sponsor or not. For many of these children, this will be the only special celebration they will have and the only gift they will receive.
In Guatemala each child received a food basket containing a variety of goodies and food items such as black beans, rice, cooking oil, tortilla mix, marshmallows and candies. The ‘basket’ itself is a plastic bowl which is very useful for many purposes. In the Quiche mountains, where the majority of the children live, the bowl is great for preparing tortilla mix.
In Albania the children also received a food basket containing cooking oil, sugar, salt and some sweets. Their ‘basket’ is a lidded bucket, which again is very useful for holding milk or storing other liquids. Each child also received one of the sweatshirts or cardigans donated by Rowlinsons (see previous blog item) along with their Christmas gift and these will be a great blessing in the cold Albanian winter months.
The staff teams in both countries also enjoyed a Christmas meal out together as a ‘Thank You’ for all their dedication and commitment over the year.
Thank you to everyone who contributed towards their sponsored child’s Christmas gift and/or donated to the general Christmas fund. This takes a lot of time and finance each year and we couldn’t do it without all the extra donations – but it is so worth it when you see the delight on the faces of the children as they receive their gift!
