Children with a ‘NE’ prefix attend the feeding programme in one of the downtown areas of Guatemala City known as Zone 5. Murders, gang war, rapes, prostitution and drugs are commonplace in most of these areas and yet Zone 5, an area built on an old city rubbish dump, has become something special in the lives of the workers & missionaries with Adopt-A-Child. Although crime is rampant in this area and the sound of gunshots is an everyday occurrence, God has not forgotten His people.
In 2013 we were able to buy a three-storey building which now houses the feeding programme, clinics for looking after the basic medical and dental care of the children on the programme, classrooms and a youth centre.
The food for the feeding programme is being cooked in our premises in Jocotenango, a suburb of Antigua where we also have a programme. The food is then transported in heat-proof containers to Zone 5.
The feeding programme runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays in Zone 5 and over 500 children are being served and cared for each week at present.
